Intro:
My name is Anthony. I’m currently enrolled in my senior year at ACLC. I’ve been here since the sixth grade, whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you. You know, in the beginning ACLC was pure bliss. It was super social, and everyone was generally friendly. I’m not going to say it’s gone downhill since then, but it has changed. Maybe I just got too comfortable with the past.
Personal Qualities Paragraph 1: Self Esteem -
During my time at ACLC I’ve noticed a change in people's social lives. In the beginning, it seemed like everyone knew each other and were friends. As we grew older and personalities developed, people began to separate. Groups eventually formed, as in any high school. I found my group of friends, who supported me on basically everything. These people helped me grow both confidence, and creativity. I came to ACLC thinking the school program would help create me; but instead it was the people. I didn’t have to forcefully change to fit into anyones opinions, I was just being me.
New Basics Paragraph 2: Arts -
With the support of my friends I’ve been able to expand my artistic background massively. Over the years I’ve been gaining a basic understanding of many different skills in this category. Whether it's making music, graphic design, or editing movies; being comfortable with my work has never been an issue. When you have people who opinions actually matter , no one else does. You learn to just not care what other people think. I’m glad that these simple things have worked out for the better.
New Basics Paragraph 3: Speaking -
I’ve always been really shy about public speaking. Nothing has really changed about that. I’d say I’ve gotten more comfortable speaking in public, but that would be a lie. I’m just as uncomfortable, but now I don’t have the excuse of age on my side. Although I have noticed that learning lingo is extremely useful. It breaks a barrier when meeting new people, creates a less anxious setting.
Thinking and Reasoning Skills Paragraph 4: Visualizes -
If I were to categorize myself into any one of these “skills” I’d put myself in the system thinker category. Mostly because I do what is necessary, nothing more or less. But that’s super boring so screw that. I visualize basically all my projects ahead of time whether they are school related or not. I’m pretty sure everyone does this. For example I’m designing the senior apparel for the class of 2018. I’ve got to have an idea of what I want, and what other want. So obviously I’ll visualize what I’m going to draw, maybe get some inspiration from google images. I’ll basically come up with four or five sketches, and we’ll vote on which we prefer.
Interpersonal Abilities Paragraph 5: Participates As A Team Member -
I’ve always thought a lot of teamwork. I play on a lacrosse team so it’s important to me. Being a team member means doing your part. If someone else is putting effort into completing a goal, than you should put equal effort into that goal you’re trying to reach. That’s a basic meaning to me, but there’s more to it. If people aren’t doing their part, you have an obligation to complete the task. Sure it might be unfair and suck, but thats just called taking one for the team. I’ll admit it, I’ve been that guy before. You’ve got to understand that sometimes people have days where they just can’t function. If it’s happening consistently your partner is just lazy, which is cool I guess; your problem.
Technology Paragraph 6: Selects Technology -
When it comes to more computer related items, I usually know what’s best for the job. Like I stated earlier I have a bunch of programs that I’ve used in the past. So I know which is best for a certain task. Google docs is probably the most useful piece of technology out there right now, when it comes towards school related issues. In my opinion all you need are a basic three programs. A writing program (Google Docs), an editing program (Final Cut Pro), and an online communication program (Skype, Discord, etc). You can get pretty much anything that a school would throw at you accomplished with these.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, you learn a lot in high school. Not just math and history, you’ll learn a lot about yourself too. Mistakes and regrets are just a part of it. Regardless if you like it or not, you’ll experience it all. And that’s just highschool, imagine college. I can’t. All these little baby steps go by quicker than expected so try and enjoy them while you can. I’m not trying to make this something inspirational, but rather more informative. So yeah, thanks ACLC.
